Riddle: In a small town, known for its delectable pastries, there was a renowned baker by the name of Dyani. Famous for his mouthwatering creations, the baker was a beloved figure in the community. However, one fateful morning, tragedy struck the bakery. The baker was found dead in his kitchen, a victim of a heinous crime. It seems he ate something he was allergic to.

Three apprentices worked alongside the baker, each with their own unique talents and aspirations. Suspicions ran high as the townsfolk wondered which apprentice could have committed such a vile act. The investigation began, and the truth slowly unraveled.

The first apprentice, Alex, was known for being the most diligent worker. Despite being new to the team, Alex is always punctual and focused, having a reputation for precision and a strong work ethic. However, it was whispered that Alex had expressed envy towards the baker’s success, desiring to surpass him someday.

The second apprentice, Claire, the bakers right hand and longest apprentice, possessed an unparalleled creativity when it came to baking. With a knack for experimenting with flavors, Claire often surprised everyone with her innovative pastries. Some claimed that the baker’s refusal to acknowledge Claire’s talent had fueled a simmering resentment.

The third apprentice, Max, was considered the least skilled among the three. Max, despite joining at the same time as Claire struggled with the intricacies of baking and often made mistakes. However, Max was known for his persistence and determination to improve. Rumors suggested that Max was growing impatient with the slow progress and seeking a shortcut to success.

The detective assigned to the case examined the evidence and interviewed the apprentices. It soon became clear who the true culprit was. One clue stood out from the rest—a half-eaten cinnamon roll found near the crime scene. It bore the distinct “D” mark of a pastry made by the staff of the bakery. Though the signature almost looked as though the baker himself done it.

Who among them was the murderer, and how was it deduced?

Hint: The answer lies within the apprentices time working with Baker Dyani.

Answer: The detective concluded that the murderer was Claire, the second apprentice. While all three apprentices had their motives and questionable behavior, the clue of the half-eaten cinnamon roll was the key to solving the mystery. The detective discovered that the baker was highly allergic to cinnamon and never consumed anything containing it. The apprentice who knew Dyani most would have known about this allergy.

We can eliminating Alex because they were relatively new. This leaves Claire and Max. We know is can’t be Max because they were not very good at baking meaning they wouldn’t have been the one to make the pastry. This leaves Claire. We also know it must be Claire because Clair was the first and longest apprentice.

The detectives arrested Claire, ensuring justice was served for the baker’s untimely demise.
